Eye Doctor Says : Ethyl Alcohol not Isopropyl

A "Sore Eyes" advisory from the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology and your friendly neighborhood iDoc:

Adenovirus detector test done at the Cornea and External Diseases clinic of PGH on several patients turned out NEGATIVE.

Most patients we see now have Subconjunctival hemorrhages. It seems the current outbreak is due to Enterovirus 70.

Enterovirus is hydrophilic and it cannot be disinfected by isopropyl alcohol.
We are advising everyone to use 70% ethyl alcohol instead for disinfection.
